Mehdi Kamalian (1918 – 1997) began his professional artistic activities under Abolhasan Saba, Hosein Hang Afarin and Alinaghi Vaziri. He was one of the most famous contemporary Setar builders and his masterpieces are now treated like a gem among famous Setar artists and fans. He also has been a researcher in Persian music and has done great collaboration toward Persian Radif. Mastro Mohamad Reza Lotfi was the one in love with his Setars and he has collected many of Mehdi Kamalian’s Setars.
