The SAZYAR Workshop
Where Repair Becomes Restoration — and Restoration Becomes Art
At SAZYAR, we don’t simply fix instruments — we revitalize their voice. Every instrument carries a sonic identity shaped by its wood, its construction, and the hands that built it. Our luthier’s role is to honour that identity while restoring its full potential.
Repair vs Restoration
Repair returns an instrument to full playability — addressing structural, functional, and acoustic issues without altering its original character. Restoration goes further, returning vintage or antique instruments as close as possible to their original voice, appearance, and historical integrity.
Museum-Grade Standards
Trusted by museums, private collectors, music institutions, and performing artists across Canada and the USA. We apply the same standards to a student’s setar as to a 19th-century instrument in a collector’s archive.
Persian & Western Expertise
Our luthier has deep, hands-on knowledge of both Western classical and Persian/Middle Eastern instrument traditions — rare expertise that allows us to serve the full spectrum of musicians in Canada’s diverse musical community.
Honest Assessment First
Every instrument receives a thorough evaluation before any work begins. We explain exactly what is needed, why, and what to expect — in plain language. No surprise charges, no unnecessary work.

Beyond Repair
Sound Enhancement — Make Your Instrument Sing
Some instruments play well but don’t quite reach their full sonic potential. Sound enhancement is a targeted luthier service that unlocks the voice already inside your instrument — without altering its character.
Resonance & Projection Tuning
We assess your instrument’s acoustic response — how sound travels through the top, back, and body — and make targeted adjustments to improve projection and sustain. This may include bridge mass and placement refinement, brace inspection, and soundhole geometry on acoustic instruments.
Tonal Balance & Clarity
Uneven tone between strings or registers, harsh overtones, or a muddy low end are often caused by bridge height asymmetry, nut slot geometry, or neck angle. We identify and correct these — improving string-to-string balance and tonal clarity across the full range of the instrument.
Skin Soundboard Tensioning (Persian Instruments)
On setar, tar, robab, sarud, and tanbour, the skin soundboard is the soul of the instrument. Its tension directly governs warmth, brightness, and sensitivity to the mezrab. We assess and adjust skin tension — including replacement when necessary — to restore or enhance the instrument’s traditional tonal character.
Action Optimization for Playability & Tone
Action that is too high creates fatigue and intonation problems. Action that is too low kills sustain and creates buzz. The ideal action for tone and playability varies by instrument, playing style, and tradition. We set action precisely for the instrument you play and the music you perform.
Nut & Saddle Material Upgrade
The nut and saddle are contact points where string energy transfers into the instrument. Upgrading from plastic to bone, fossilized ivory, or compensated Tusq can meaningfully improve sustain, intonation, and tonal richness on guitars, ouds, setars, and other fretted instruments.
Finish & Body Preservation
Cracks, chips, and dull or damaged finish don’t just affect appearance — they affect how the instrument resonates. Localized finish repair, cleaning, and preservation maintains both the acoustic properties and the long-term structural integrity of the instrument’s body.

Google Reviews — Toronto & GTA Clients
What Our Clients Say
“Reza at Sazyar did an outstanding job repairing my setar (Shoorangiz) — from replacing the skin and repairing the coating of the body to servicing the entire instrument. Perfect tuning and much more work than I expected. My setar sounds much better than before.”
“I brought my oud to be fixed — the tuning pegs were stiff, strings strung in the wrong order. Not only were the pegs fixed and strings re-strung correctly, he also added linseed oil to the soundboard, cleaned excess glue, and gave a beautiful finish to the bridge. His service is very quick, professional and clean.”
“50+ year vintage Spanish guitar for repair. Above and beyond all expectations. Mr. Reza is so passionate in his work and sought out every possible way to excel. 100% satisfaction — highly recommended.”
